Out of the Silence (Released in 1999 by Link’s Open Air Music)
Altar Boy (Music & Lyrics by Daniel Link)
I’m driving away from home in the back seat of my car… Can’t reach the steering wheel and the seatbelt rub’s me raw… Small town altar boy flying kites and having fun… Commit and confess my sins drown in guilt and drink some blood…
Father forgive me…for I have shame… Father convince me…that you’re not to blame… If I’m not worthy to receive…just say the word… And I will leave…God’s love is…
I’m driving down to Texas gonna grow my hair down long… Start smoking cigarettes ‘till that altar boy is gone… I’ll mold my own disguise I’ll change the way I talk… Betray that dreaming child who never crawled before he walked…
Father forgive me…for I have shame… Father convince me…that you’re not to blame… If I’m not worthy to receive…just say the word… And I will leave…God’s love is free…
My friends all do drugs and they love to sleep around… Drag queens, whores and thieves but I love them anyhow… These days I don’t believe I’d see Jesus on TV… These days He’d be hanging out… He’d be hanging out With all my friends and me...
Father forgive me…for I have shame… Father convince me…that you’re not to blame… If I’m not worthy to receive…just say the word… And I will leave…God’s love is free…
I Still Need You Tonight (Music & Lyrics by Daniel Link)
I’m gonna try and tell you the best I can, Putting all the hurt aside It seems we’ve suddenly come to be together… I guess I just assumed you wanted me now…
It’s so easy for me to put you in my heart… With your sentimental way… I guess I jumped before it was time to start, ‘Cuz I needed you today…
But you’re telling me you need to be your own, That you need to be alone… to set things right…In your life… And you’re telling me you’ll never hurt again…. That you might love me when … I take my time… And treat you right… oh but baby… I still need you tonight….
And you tell me that you need some time… To see if we are really in love… Well, darlin’ you know that deep down in side,
I would do anything for you… But if by chance you find your self in some else’s arms… He couldn’t love you more than me…
But you’re telling me you need to be your own, That you need to be alone… to set things right…In your life… And you’re telling me you’ll never hurt again…. That you might love me when … I take my time… And treat you right… oh but baby… I still need you tonight….
Believe (Music and lyrics by Daniel Link)
Come on time is wastin’… Come on, it’s getting late… Come on, stop that, listen to me, I can’t believe you’re thinkin’ that…
That I am just a dreamer… That I’m behind your back… Runnin’ ‘round, fakin’ out, And pretendin’ I ain’t where I’m at…
Do you really believe I don’t just cherish you, Can you ever believe I want to dance with you…
You’re away from the reason… I’m away from the start… You’re to blame, I’m to blame, blame no reason… We blame a broken heart…
There is a solution… There is a reason why… Lives collide, point-of-view, true perspective… One great mighty eye…
Do you really believe I don’t just cherish you, Can you ever believe I want to dance with you… I believe every reason maybe to stay with you…
I believe… you believe…
Nature of Love (Music & Lyrics by Daniel Link)
I hear it in your voice my friend, You’re reasoning with your heart... After all the years you’ve gone alone, You’ve found color in your lost art... And all the songs you love to hear, Come alive in your dance and groove... A man who speaks just what you’re thinking, And the music becomes your proof...
You are the wise one... His spirit is young~ In grace you must free him, Before the damage...the damage is done...
This is the nature of love...this is your way... This is the nature of love...your beauty remains...
You finally had a moment When you prayed it would never end... And now there is a song you love, That you never want to hear again... And all your lives your paths have crossed, And you missed each other in between... For a time they went the same direction, Will you ever know what this means...
You are the wise one... His spirit is young~ In grace you must free him, Before the damage...the damage is done...
This is the nature of love...this is your way... This is the nature of love...your beauty remains...
Constant Faithfulness (Music & Lyrics by Daniel Link)
Couldn’t write it in a letter to you… Couldn’t say it over the telephone… I don’t know if I know what to say, I don’t know if I can deal with this today…
Hear about it on the TV news… Not believing we have anything to lose.. Talk about certain people that we knew… Can’t believe this is happening to you…
What can I do…
Constant is my faithfulness is the only thing I can say. The future is an uncertain place… we can only live for today…. And when faith leaves you to question…afraid you can’t go on… I’ll have enough faith for you… ‘till the fear is gone…
Will you turn your eyes away… Heavy glances fall unto the floor… Why can’t this life give just a little more… I don’t believe my poor heart can take this anymore…
We can’t fake this anymore…
Constant is my faithfulness is the only thing I can say. The future is an uncertain place… we can only live for today…. And when faith leaves you to question…afraid you can’t go on… I’ll have enough faith for you… ‘till the fear is gone…
‘Till the fear is gone… ‘Till the fear is gone… ‘Till the fear is gone…
Ghost Stories (Released in 2002 by Link’s Open Air Music)
Ghost (Music and Lyrics by Daniel Link)
What do I believe when I see a falling star... Another angel finds his wings, Or waste a wish on useless things... ...A really fast car...
What do I see when I look out my window... The neighbor’s yard needs mowed, A reflection of my own... ...With an innuendo...
It’s all about living in fear... All the anger welling up inside... But the ghost in my falling tear... Is putting up a good fight...
The night is still young, let’s open up a bottle of wine... The vintage is a good year, here’s to you and to good cheer... ...The last glass is mine...
If I meet you at a party, I’m your best friend... Here’s my number and my card, let’s meet for drinks at a bar... ...I’ll never see you again...
It’s all about living in fear... All the anger welling up inside... But the ghost in my falling tear... Is putting up a good fight...
What is it about, what does it all come down to... Loving without need, giving without greed... ...There’s nothing to lose...
It’s all about living in fear... All the anger welling up inside... But the ghost in my falling tear... Is putting up a good fight...
Tangled (Music & lyrics by Daniel Link)
I got a little secret And it’s winding around my throat… I want to tell you badly, But some things you don’t need to know…
I’m tangled…yes I’m tangled…
I want to give you everything, My sex, my love, my rush… Of all the things in this world, The hardest to give is trust…
I’m tangled, yes I’m tangled…
I’m firing off in the wrong direction… Am I really thinking of you or my own protection… Could you ever love me, Could you understand… If I reveal too much you might get to know me…
I’m tangled…yes I’m tangled…
I don’t want to lie to you, If there’s a promise and I can’t keep it… Is it a lie if I don’t tell, Or am I as sick as my little secret…
I’m tangled…yes I’m tangled…
I’m firing off in the wrong direction… Am I really thinking of you or my own protection… Could you ever love me, Could you understand… If I reveal too much you might get to know me…
I’m tangled…I am tangled…
Storm in My Heart (Music by Daniel Link, Lyrics by Cheri Chilcote)
I’ve run out of answers, I’ve run out of clues, Sittin’ back seein’ what time’s gonna do... Too much effort, too many tears... Too many doubts from a few jealous peers...
I need to sit back and let it roll as it will... Sit here and pray it won’t roll straight down hill... If love is a free gift, if that is a fact... Once it is given, don’t ask for it back...
The rain at my window can soothe me in part, But that will never soothe this storm in my heart... Storm in my heart...
You love to listen to the rain just this way, Prone on your back all through with your day... I won’t say a word, there’s nothin’ to say... The lightening has stopped, for an instant we’re sane...
I’ve run out of answers, I’ve run out of clues, Sittin’ back seein’ what time’s gonna do... Too much effort, too many tears... You’re out of control when you don’t get to steer...
Sweet Baby (Music & Lyrics by Daniel Link)
She Got an old guitar…Got it from an old lover… Someday she would go far…Singing seventies covers…
She'll write a song…She'll see the world… She'll be on top…She'll be a rock-n-roll girl, And everyone will love her… Everyone will love her…
Well, she got pretty good…Sang at a wedding or two… Yes, she understood…What she wanted to do…
She met a man…Music in his blood… He had a van…California or bust… And she really loved him, Yes, she really loved him…
Sweet baby sing your song…sweet baby… It's what you've wanted all along…sweet baby… Sweet, sweet baby…sing your song…
So they hit the road…Broke her mothers heart, But seventeen and on her own…She'd leave no doors shut…
She had no idea…What she was in for, The day he left…She could cry no more… He never really loved her… No, he never loved her…
Sweet baby sing your song…sweet baby… It's what you've wanted all along…sweet baby… Sweet, sweet baby…sing your song…
What is the force that drives the heart… What tangled course stretches back to start… What silent voice begins to scream… Time unfolds the naked dream…
She's got a new guitar…Got it from her new lover… And she's come so far…Singing from her front porch rocker…
She's got three kids…And a husband she loves, A goodnight kiss…And shinning stars above… And they really love her… Yes, they really love her…
Sweet baby sing your song…sweet baby… It's what you've wanted all along…sweet baby… Sweet, sweet baby…sing your song…
Someone in Austin (Music by Daniel Link, Lyrics by James Odle Jr.)
She gave away her things Even her old lawn chair Packed her old suitcase Said that's all she'd need there Left me her cat The one that's half blind She was west bound that night Leaving Houston behind…
I wished her the best Watched her fade in the west… She's headed for that town She thinks is blessed… Doesn't care what this is costin' Just said that it felt right… There's someone in Austin Who needs her tonight…
She took her old guitar And those combs for her hair Never would have dreamed Our bedroom could seem so bare She came with no strings Said she'd leave the same way Just a wave and a smile As she drove off that day…
I wished her the best Watched her fade in the west… She's headed for that town She thinks is blessed… Doesn't care what this is costin' Just said that it felt right… There's someone in Austin Who needs her tonight…
That hill country's coming in sight, And I may not be all right… But there's someone else in Austin… There’s someone in Austin… There’s someone in Austin Who needs her tonight…
I wished her the best Watched her fade in the west… She's headed for that town She thinks is blessed… Doesn't care what this is costin' Just said that it felt right… There's someone in Austin Who needs her tonight…
Vision of Colour (Music & Lyrics by Daniel Link)
She lives in an abstract vision of color... Choreographing the clashing makeup of her life... All she wants is a perfect collection of reason, All she wants is reward for her intentions...
Come on baby, let me take you by the hand... I wanna be your lover, I wanna be your man... But she said ~ I’m always gonna love you honey, But only as your friend... I never meant to hurt you baby...and this way... I never will again...
He lives to protect his integrity... A solid structure...build on simple dreams... All he wants is commitment from the wild wind... All he wants is for her to follow him...
Come on baby, let me take you by the hand... I wanna be your lover, I wanna be your man... But she said ~ I’m always gonna love you honey, But only as your friend... I never meant to hurt you baby...and this way... I never will again...
True Perspective (Music & Lyrics by Daniel Link)
Don’t turn around... Don’t make a sound... Walk down the only road you’ve chosen ~
I won’t turn around... I am the sound... Of innocence long gone and forgotten ~
There was a time when we were in love... And like children...we didn’t know what we would become... We grew together, and then apart... Again we can start... With the true perspective...
Listen to the silence ~ Think without time... Fall into the place where you are knowing...
You can’t build a house On sandy ground... Clear the sand one grain at a time ~
There was a time when we were in love... And like children...we didn’t know what we would become... We grew together, and then apart... Again we can start... With the true perspective...
Séance (Music & Lyrics by Daniel Link)
There was a shade of sadness in your eyes… A broken heart that’s hardened over time… Secret wounds you’ve chosen to deny… How could you bare the pain to never cry…
Only love can save us, Undo what has made us…so cold… We’re on our way back home…
Like David, I was a statue made of stone… Castaway in the dessert, I was alone… If beauty is skin deep baby…I was cologne… Baron of water and thirsty to the bone…
Only love can save us, Undo what has made us… so cold… We’re on our way back home…
Love is the séance…love is the séance…
You lead me from the dessert to the ocean My eyes sink beneath your pain You felt the heart of my devotion Now your tears fall on me like rain…
Only love can save us, Undo what has made us… so cold… We’re on our way back home…
Love is the séance…love is the séance…
Love is the séance…
Love is the séance…
Love is the séance…
Love is the séance…
Be Home Soon (Music by Daniel Link, Lyrics by James Odle Jr.)
Woke up in my hotel room today Another night, another gig to play
Reach for my watch on the nightstand Brushed the phone with my hand Thought of getting out of bed But I laid back down with you instead
Be home soon echoed on the phone Be home soon I hate to be alone Can’t promise the stars and moon I just promise to be home soon
On this stage there’s no place to hide All these feelings I keep inside
Reach for you in these songs I sing But these songs don’t wear my ring Got a new song in my head But only your memory to share my bed
Be home soon echoed on the phone Be home soon I hate to be alone Can’t promise the stars and moon I just promise to be home soon
Christine (Music & Lyrics by Daniel Link. For Kitty, written February 27, 2001)
There’s a ballerina In her jewelry box… But no one can see her… She is a paradox… And just like her, With so much beauty inside… She will dance in the mirror… She will run and she will hide…
Christine, There’s a flower on the table… There’s a message in the rain… There’s a fire in your halo, There’s lightening in your veins… If you are willing you are able, To wear your chatelaine...
Christine…
There’s a ghost who’s crying… In her closet at night… A voice that is trying… To sing the beauty she hides… Oh, we misplace our comfort, In the misery of life… Is it so easy to suffer, is it so easy to cry…
Christine, There’s a flower on the table… There’s a message in the rain… There’s a fire in your halo, There’s lightening in your veins… If you are willing you are able, To wear your chatelaine...
Christine…
(Instrumental Bridge)
There’s a ballerina In her jewelry box… But no one can see her… She is a paradox… And just like her, With so much beauty inside… She will dance in the mirror... She will run, And she will hide...
Christine, There’s a flower on the table… There’s a message in the rain… There’s a fire in your halo, There’s lightening in your veins… If you are willing you are able, To wear your chatelaine...

Telepathy (Music and Lyrics by Daniel Link)
Don’t say a word, Cuz I’ve already heard What you testify, I can read in your eyes… I can feel it in your touch, Baby, just how much You want to get into me, Be my galaxy…
It’s more than infatuation… It’s Divine collaboration… I never did before, But I’m beginning to believe in…
Telepathy… Telepathy… Telepathy…
So I’ve got this thing It’s hard for me to bring Myself to admit, Your eyes are moonlit… You’ve been there before You know me and much more, You know how I feel, You know how heal…
It’s more than infatuation… It’s Divine collaboration… I never did before, But I’m beginning to believe in…
Telepathy… Telepathy… Telepathy…
What’s gonna happen tonight, The stars and the moon can’t hide… We swirl, and our dance takes flight… Whatever happens…we’ll be all right…
It’s more than infatuation… It’s Divine collaboration… I never did before, But I’m beginning to believe in…
Telepathy… Telepathy… Telepathy…
Good Life (Music and Lyrics by Daniel Link)
A little sunshine, a little rain, A little ecstasy, a little pain… Threw all kinds of weather, It’s a good life…
A little money, a little debt… A little gratitude and some regret… It all adds up together… It’s a good life…
I don’t expect too much these days, I just sit back… And watch the world go by, And when I smile, or when I cry… I thank the good Lord, Yes, I thank God, It’s a good life…
I drown in sorrow, I swim in glad… I flip a coin, I always call heads… Don’t matter if I win or lose, It’s a good life…
So give me good times, give me bad… Give me happiness, and give me sad… One is nothing without the other, It’s a good life…
I don’t expect too much these days, I just sit back… And watch the world go by, And when I smile, or when I cry… I thank the good Lord, Yes, I thank God.. It’s a good life…

Evergreen (Music & Lyrics by Daniel Link)
Somewhere beyond limbo… A place untouched by time… A place where you can see Every star up in the sky…
Water here flows freely… Soothing every stone… Everywhere is the garden, Of your sweet love overgrown…
Evergreen…you fill the open sky… Evergreen…the world you dignify… Evergreen…my soul you mystify… Evergreen…you make me cry…
Standing on the edge Of a great summer storm… I through my arms wide open My hair is wind blown…
Trees begin to dance My heart begins to pound… To the rhythm of the thunder, Your sweet voice is the sound…
Evergreen…you fill the open sky… Evergreen…the world you dignify… Evergreen…my soul you mystify… Evergreen…You make me cry…
I went into the kiva ~ And offered up my mask… I drank from the hueco… And made peace with my past…
You gave me my direction ~ East, west, north and south… Pulled me to my center, And you kissed me on the mouth…
Evergreen…you fill the open sky… Evergreen…the world you dignify… Evergreen…my soul you mystify…
Evergreen…
Evergreen, evergreen…yeah…
Evergreen, evergreen…yeah…
Evergreen, evergreen…yeah…
Evergreen, evergreen…yeah…
Evergreen, evergreen…yeah…
Angel Falls (Music & Lyrics by Daniel Link)
He’s a little too late… He’s gone a little too far… And she can no longer wait, She’s got a permanent scar…
He really blew it this time… He never knew what he lost… But he’s gonna really find out, What the damage will cost…
The world keeps spinning around, We are frail…in time we are bound… And sometimes even an angel falls to the ground…
She’s not gonna give in, But she is giving up – He said, “I’m sorry” again… She said, “not sorry enough…”
See the wind in her hair… See the tears in her eyes… Did you forget to care, About the woman inside…
The world keeps spinning around, We are frail… in time we are bound… And sometimes even an angel falls to the ground…
The world keeps spinning around, We are frail… in time we are bound… And sometimes even an angel falls to the ground…
Sometimes even an angel… (angel falls) Sometimes even an angel…(angel falls) Yes, sometimes even an angel falls to the ground…
Vicious Circle (Music & Lyrics by Daniel Link)
My heart sought resurrection… I longed for explanation… I more I grasped, The more you simply slipped away…
Like a bird… Who has always been a captive… Even freedoms not attractive, This bird in me Could not see to the sky from this cage…
This vicious circle has always been my hell… Over and over again I fell… The pain was always self-inflicted… I guess I was a little addicted… You could never give me…what I lost of myself…
I always tried to blame you… I always looked to shame you… That emptiness In your eyes spoke volumes to me…
Like a fool… I never thought to question… Myself or my conviction… And like a fool I wandered further out to the sea…
This vicious circle has always been my hell… Over and over again I fell… The pain was always self-inflicted… I guess I was a little addicted… You could never give me…what I lost of myself…
What I lost of myself… (Vicious circle…)
What I lost of myself… (Vicious circle…)
What I lost of myself… (Vicious circle…)
What I lost of myself… (Vicious circle…)
What I lost of myself… (Vicious circle…)
What I lost of myself…

Be Kind (Music & Lyrics by Daniel Link)
I play with the gods, Submit my commandments And I wear a lightening rod, Barefoot in the water…
I’m calling the shots… Created my own time zone… And for all that I’ve done, Pain is my greatest invention…
With every thought With every word I speak out loud… I’m setting in motion What the universe brings to me If I punch it strikes back on me…
So be kind, So believe… So say love…. So say peace…
I’m sprouting the roots In the seed I hold in my hand Yet I’m shaking in my boots… I’ve created a monster…
I’m breaking in two Pieces of fear and love… Now it’s time for me to choose… Which do I wanna get back…
With every thought With every word I speak out loud… I’m setting in motion What the universe brings to me If I punch it strikes back on me…
So be kind, So believe… So say love…. So say peace…
So be kind… So believe… So say love… So say peace…
With every thought With every word I speak out loud… I’m setting in motion What the universe brings to me If I punch it strikes back on me…
So be kind, So believe… So say love…. So say peace…
So be kind… So believe… So say love… So say peace…
The Calm Before… (Music & lyrics by Daniel Link)
Will you rise… From the ashes of your broken heart… Will you fly And become a master like Mozart…
Color of Rain (Words and music by Daniel Link)
Will you ever surrender… The words that have gone unsaid… Will your faith ever find you… Are you still thin from where you bled…
Are you looking for answers, In somebody else’s eyes… And do you turn up empty, When there’s nobody left to sacrifice ~
Will you rise… From the ashes of your broken heart… Will you fly… And become a master like Mozart…
And gently pull back the reigns… Wash away…the insane… When storms move through you, And leave the color of rain…
I make it sound so easy, I do not believe that truth hurts… But I know what it feels like, To watch my beliefs fall down to the dirt…
Will you rise… From the ashes of your broken heart… Will you fly… And become a master like Mozart…
And gently pull back the reigns… Wash away…the insane… When storms move through us, They leave the color of rain…
I did once surrender… The lies began to fade… At once I did remember, The one I did evade… Circle like a sparrow, Reach out with your soul… Let go of the arrow… Let go of your bow ~
I did once surrender… The lies began to fade… At once I did remember, The one I did evade… Circle like a sparrow, Reach out with your soul… Let go of the arrow… Let go of your bow ~
I did once surrender… The lies began to fade… At once I did remember, The one I did evade… Circle like a sparrow, Reach out with your soul… Let go of the arrow… Let go of your bow ~
4 AM Slam Over Coffee (Music by Johnny Big. Spoken word by Daniel Link)
On the surface, I seem like a pretty nice guy. Generally accommodating, you know, say nice to meet you even to a complete asshole. It’s always good to give the benefit of doubt because Even assholes have bad days…I guess…
But sometimes I’m like a bowl of Rice Krispies…you know…Snap, crackle, pop… In the end I’m just…I don’t know…A little soggy I guess. It’s good to have a piece of toast, slightly burnt on the side.
Speaking of toast, there’s nothin’ like a good party to liven things up a bit. A couple shots eases moods, relieves stress…promotes…Flexibility.
I don’t drink anymore.
I drink a lot of coffee though. Keeps me alert, on top, focussed, centered, involved, awake, aware, open, thinking, talking, regular, buzzed, hyperactive, interactive, stimulated, isolated yet integrated, agitated, stressed, fried…
Maybe it’s the sugar.
My friend Michael can’t ingest sugar. He plays flute, oh, there he is, hey Michael.
Our friends Donny & Vickie are vegetarians, so when all of us get together for dinner, there’s no meat, and sugarless dessert. Oh, and no alcohol. I don’t drink anymore. Anyway, it’s a lot of fun. You see what I mean about flexibility.
We talk about the divine nature of the universe, creativity, music, art, the black bean enchiladas, the lack of turkey, both baked and wild. We’re all so very now, so very Zen. So politically correct, though we don’t talk about politics.
I’m rambling…. Like I said, I’m a pretty nice guy. As long as I’m big on small talk and short on big ideas. I can get along with practically anyone. It’s the difference between talking nice and saying what you mean. Try it at home. That’s where it really pays off.
I’m usually not this cynical, but it’s 4:20 AM, mid November, and I’m drinking coffee. And coffee gets me…aware…
Of course the perfect antidote to all of life’s problems is gratitude. And I am grateful for my friends, my family, my music, my health, my cat who is now chewing on the edge of this paper. Better him eat my words than me. And I’m grateful that there are people who really understand and want peace in this world. And I’m grateful I’m up at 4:21 AM so I can watch the sunrise. Oh, it’s cloudy…looks like rain…better still…’cause I’m even more grateful for the rain…
Bruce Wayne (Music & Lyrics by Daniel Link)
In the sun…brilliant radiance… In the sun…blisters and burns…
In the sun Brilliant radiance In the sun Blisters and burns Discipline Tempered character Discipline Sentenced to die…
Everyday presents it’s own choice, Tears flow from joy or flow from pain Tears of pain… Come what may I am still a reflection No need to fight when I’m Bruce Wayne Bruce Wayne…
One Mary Pleasures of the skin One Mary Full of Grace Cup of wine Blood of a Savoir Cup of wine, Root of evil
Everyday presents it’s own choice, Tears flow from joy or flow from pain… Tears of pain… Come what may I am still a reflection, No need to fight when I’m Bruce Wayne… Bruce Wayne…
I can forgive you But I can’t forget What of peace will remain… When revenge Is my sole companion Am I still Bruce Wayne…
Everyday presents it’s own choice, Tears flow from joy or flow from pain… Tears of pain… Come what may I am still a reflection, No need to fight when I’m Bruce Wayne… Bruce Wayne…
One Good Reason (Music and Lyrics by Daniel Link)
Left my home, Said goodbye to the mighty river… Bless my soul, To the south winds I deliver…
Just a young man, well… Lookin’ for something better… Where did I find myself… In the heart of inclement weather…
Give me reason to live Give me reason to die Give me reason to laugh Instead of reason to cry… All I ever wanted was more than you could ever give… And baby I can’t live…this way… Give me one good reason to stay…
In this city, I arrived with all my innocence… There’s no pity, Wolves stalk with magnificence…
Then there you were, One more time I did surrender… Then one more careless hurt, Now that’s all my heart remembers…
Give me reason to live Give me reason to die Give me reason to laugh Instead of reason to cry… All I ever wanted was more than you could ever give… And baby I can’t live…this way… Give me one good reason to stay…
Give me reason to live Give me reason to die Give me reason to laugh Instead of reason to cry… All I ever wanted was more than you could ever give… And baby I can’t live…this way… Give me one good reason to stay…
Give one good reason... One good reason... To stay...
Charms (Music by Daniel Link, lyrics by James Odle Jr.)
Here in the faded light I’m headed south tonight Stars and moon glowing They know where I’m going… High on your charms… Wrapped in your arms… Where it all felt right, South of your borders tonight…
South of Your Borders (Music by Daniel Link, lyrics by James Odle Jr. & Daniel Link)
Caught Herb Albert while listening to the radio today Reminded me of the taxi two strangers shared in Monterey That driver never understood, Why we said “stop at the hotel bar,” We decided that was better Than his funky little car…
You paid for dinner and I borrowed a guitar from the band When I asked if you could sing the tequila said ‘I can” We sang of summer nights and lovers, Bartender caught the tab that night We had the crowd in the palm of our hands, We were clickin’ alright…
Here in the faded light I’m headed south tonight Stars and moon glowing They know where I’m going… High on your charms… Wrapped in your arms… Where it all felt right, South of your borders tonight…
Here in the faded light I’m headed south tonight Stars and moon glowing They know where I’m going… High on your charms… Wrapped in your arms… Where it all felt right, South of your borders tonight…
Essence (Music and Lyrics by Daniel Link)
Dark brown eyes like the far side of the moon, Jet black curls like nocturnal flowers bloom… Soft spoken words like night air from your lips… Heats the blood up in my neck All the way down to my hips…
Rapture… Your essence has me captured…
You speak the language of the starling and the stars… You breed forgiveness and claim Excalibar… A soul that hails from the waters of the Nile… My soul that lifts up Every time I see you smile…
Rapture… Your essence has me captured…
Rapture… Your essence has me captured…
I won’t say, “I’m behind you…” I will say, “I’m right beside you all the way…” Every night I lay down and watch you sleep I’m thankful…
No journey to tomorrow, as you always do invent… Escape from the past…arrive the moment… No rocket science gumbo from an over paid guru, Has ever fed me love Like the love I get from you…
Rapture… Your essence has me captured…
Rapture… Your essence has me captured…
I won’t say, “I’m behind you…” I will say, “I’m right beside you all the way…” Every night I lay down and watch you sleep I’m thankful…
Rapture… Your essence has me captured…
Rapture… your essence has me captured…
Rapture… Your essence has me captured…
Rapture… …Your essence has me captured…
So, Goodbye (Music & lyrics by Daniel Link)
Every road, every journey Must end. And once there, we dare, To dream again…
Sometimes together, sometimes apart We grow… Then comes a wisdom…the difference… To know…
So, goodbye… Yes, we will cry…
I take with me the love you gave, Here in my heart… This heart that you saved… Here we are parting ways… So I say…
Goodbye…
Goodbye…
Goodbye…
Goodbye…
So, goodbye…

Baby, It’s Cold Outside (Music & Lyrics by Frank Loesser)
I really can't stay - Baby it's cold outside I've got to go away - Baby it's cold outside This evening has been - Been hoping that you'd drop in So very nice - I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice My mother will start to worry - Beautiful, what's your hurry My father will be pacing the floor - Listen to the fireplace roar So really I'd better scurry - Beautiful, please don't hurry well Maybe just a half a drink more - Put some music on while I pour
The neighbors might think - Baby, it's bad out there Say, what's in this drink - No cabs to be had out there I wish I knew how - Your eyes are like starlight now To break this spell - I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell I ought to say no, no, no, sir - Mind if I move a little closer At least I'm gonna say that I tried - What's the sense in hurting my pride I really can't stay - Baby don't hold out Ahh, but it's cold outside
I simply must go - Baby, it's cold outside The answer is no - Ooh baby, it's cold outside This welcome has been - I'm lucky that you dropped in So nice and warm -- Look out the window at that storm My sister will be suspicious - Man, your lips look so delicious My brother will be there at the door - Waves upon a tropical shore My maiden aunt's mind is vicious - Gosh your lips look delicious Well maybe just a half a drink more -
I've got to go home - Oh, baby, you'll freeze out there Say, lend me your comb - It's up to your knees out there You've really been grand - Your eyes are like starlight now But don't you see - How can you do this thing to me There's bound to be talk tomorrow - Making my life long sorrow At least there will be plenty implied - What’s the sense of hurting my pride I really can't stay - Ahh, but it's cold outside
Baby it's cold outside
I’ve Got my Love to Keep Me Warm (Music & Lyrics by Irving Berlin with arrangement by Chelle Murrey)
The snow is snowing, the wind is blowing But I can weather the storm! What do I care how much it may storm? I've got my love to keep me warm. I can't remember a worse December Just watch those icicles form! What do I care if icicles form? I've got my love to keep me warm.
Off with my winter coat, off with my glove I need no winter coat, I'm burning with love! My heart's on fire, the flame grows higher So I will weather the storm! What do I care how much it may storm? I've got my love to keep me warm.
(Instrumental)
Off with my winter coat, off with my glove I need no winter coat, I'm burning with love! My heart's on fire, the flame grows higher I will weather the storm! What do I care how much it may storm? I've got my love, I've got my love, I've got my love to keep me warm.
Christmas Cookie (Music & Lyrics by Daniel Link).
It’s getting chilly Put on some Willie… Wanna love you silly… Christmas cookie…
Santa’s for hire… Long john’s in the dryer… Meet me by the fire… Christmas Cookie…
Sleigh rides, bobtails and shopping… Cheese rolls, fruitcake and yes…there’s more than Popcorn popping…
White green and scarlet… Electric candles are lit… Drizzle me in chocolate… Christmas cookie…
It’s time for Bing’s show, Let’s hang lights in the snow… Circuit breaker might blow… Christmas cookie…
Eggnog, and Sinatra’s rocking… Mistletoe is hung and yes, I can stuff your stocking…
My mama sent this Turtleneck that don’t fit… All I want is your kiss… Christmas cookie…
Christmas cookie…
Christmas cookie…
Unreleased Songs and the Stories Behind Them
Turn on the Light (Music & Lyrics by Daniel Link)
-I wrote this song back in 1997, and it was a regular part of my live shows up until 2001. It was slated to be recorded for Out of the Silence, however we were limited by space on the CD...we were only doing 5 songs. So, it was held for the full length CD Ghost Stories along with True Perspective, Vision of Colour, Ghost and Storm in my Heart. However somewhere along the production process Turn on the Light was quietly forgotten about. Not really sure why, however I do know that one of my co-producers, Stewart Cundy didn’t really care for the song...plus, there was no shortage for ballads on Ghost Stories either. So, it was inadvertently shelved. Still, this song means a lot to me and is worth repeating here.
There is a reason, There is a truth... It’s my protection, It is my roof... Here’s my redemption, Here is my life... It’s the connection... Turn on the light...
I take a walk, I walk a step... When I get off, When I get wet... I make a promise, That I can keep... I take my compass, I move my feet...
I found all the demons wreaking havoc in my life ~ No need to carry on...I was far too weak to fight... In the face of fear and anger...I let go of my pride... Turn it over ~
Turn on the light...turn on the light... Turn on the light...turn it on...
I can remember, When I was down... It was September, A sad, sad clown... Days were longer, Strung out on fear... There was a hunger, To be clear...
I took my suitcase, I took my hat... Got a new place, That’s where I’m at... My favorite colors, Are black and white... Turn onto others... Turn on the light...
I found all the demons wreaking havoc in my life ~ No need to carry on...I was far too weak to fight... In the face of fear and anger...I let go of my pride... Turn it over ~
Turn on the light...turn on the light... Turn on the light...turn it on...
Brave the Outside (Music by Daniel Link, Lyrics by Chelle Murrey)
-My good friend Chelle and I get together once every blue moon to do a sort of creative check-in with each other, and bare our souls of the creative and career woes we’ve suffered. Once such dark and chilly winter afternoon we met here at my place. Chelle brought her guitar. We were determined to help each other out of a writers block, and decided to write something together...each thinking the other would inspire some spark resembling the strength of our previous, respective works. I began playing this chord progression on my piano, and Chelle took to her note book. Within the hour we wrote Brave the Outside. Initially it was intended for Chelle to sing...however, I wound up adopting it, and it’s now a part of my life shows.
Don’t want to go outside today The sky turns from blue to gray I’ve watched the seasons change From my window...
Sleeping the day away Slumber can lesson pain Dreams bring no comfort To my awakening...
Narrow minds Breed Narrow Times Can’t make a difference if you choose to hide Choose to lead Or Choose to Follow First you must Brave the outside...
All we can see If all we are watching is our TV Is the tripped out world That we have created
Cowboys can come and go Leaving a legacy for our children to know Every generation has a cross to bear...
Narrow minds Breed Narrow Times Can’t make a difference if you choose to hide Choose to lead Or Choose to Follow First you must Brave the outside...
Worship Me (Music by Johnny Big & Daniel Link, Lyrics by Daniel Link)
-This is actually one of my favorite songs that I’ve ever written. After releasing Color of Rain, Johnny, my producer, started thinking about the “next” project for us. We’d pretty much exhausted all of the material I had that was worthy of recording at the time, so he suggested that we dive into writing new songs. One night Johnny and his wife came over to our house for supper, and Johnny ran straight over to my piano and started playing chord progressions for a verse and chorus. He played through each movement only once then looked up at me with a big smile and said, “Now, do something with that!” So I did. I wrote the lyrics and melody for the song that eventually became Worship Me. Again, I loved it so much I didn’t want to wait to record it before incorporating it into my live shows. I have no idea when the next record will be recorded and released, but rest assured this song will be on it!
I woke up like any other day... Before the stars all fade away... Not really lonely, not really far, Never stepped foot off my boulevard...
Don't really care if I'm runnin' late... Which sick idea will I medicate… Mincing words I play polite, With teeth that smile and eyes that bite...
There is no one who can save me ~ Rescue is not my style... I want someone to discover me... Worship me for a while...
I have longed to travel to that place ~ An image of me that has no face... Burned many candles like a pharaoh... Turned many cards in my tarot...
There is no one who can save me ~ Rescue is not my style... I want someone to discover me... Worship me for a while...
I woke up like any other day…
Before the stars all fade away…
Feather Falling (Music & lyrics by Daniel Link)
-This song is still a bit of a mystery to me. I wrote it last summer (‘08) in a sort of unconventional way. First of all, the lyrics where a “have to” for me...without going into details, lets just say I went through some heavy stuff and was needing to create something before I started creating drama. However when it came to doing the music, I was massively bored with the way I usually write music...on piano. So, I started searching through the data banks on my Kirzweil for a sound other than that of a piano. I landed on an African percussion set. And away I went...writing the music and melody for this song to nothing but drums. I like the song...and I have a feeling it’s really good...but I haven’t been satisfied with the way I play/sing it yet. I have a feeling it will surface in the studio. Until then...enjoy the lyrics!
Said, I’m walking out now Steady on my feet… Since my little wipe out, I slip between three sheets…
My homes become an outhouse... People talking in their sleep… Flick fandango pow wow The truth is theirs to cheat…
Feather falling On the ground… Feather falling… To be found…
This is getting ugly This is gonna sting… Truth keeps coming on me To change the way I think…
I don’t mean this smugly I’ll serve it to you neat… Don’t let your vulture hug me, No need to save my seat…
Feather falling On the ground... Feather falling... To be found...
Caída de pluma…
Caída de pluma…
Caída de pluma…
Caída de pluma…
Saving Grace (Music & Lyrics by Daniel Link)
-What to say about this song? Well, it’s my newest, and one of my favorites. It was born in an unusual way in that I was requested to write it...it was to be a birthday gift to my friend Kathy from her then boyfriend. I asked him to write down his thoughts about her, and then I would take his thoughts and create a song around them. What I found when reading his writing was very disturbing. I could tell the relationship was off balance. I felt sad for both of them, and I didn’t want to lie in the song, but I didn’t want it to be a forecast of doom either. So I channeled all the pain, all the back story and all the love I could gather, and put it into this song. A few short weeks after he gave the song to Kathy, their relationship was over. And I’ve written an additional closing chorus that, for me anyway, ends the song on a note that I felt all along.
When I was alone and scared I found myself with you… When all my walls caved in, My hero, you pulled me through… And in the total darkness My lies thrived…my fear grew… You shinned your light on me, Now I’m standing in the truth…
Outside…cease fire… This love is a saving grace, honey… Inside…inspired… This love is a saving grace…
I don’t have that much to give, I never seemed to be enough – Always the hungry victim… I crave to beat myself up… You smile and say nothing, Then take me to the well… Trees frame an ancient circle, Banished from my own hell…
Outside…cease fire… This love is a saving grace, honey… Inside…inspired… This love is a saving grace…
I rave, You pave… I crave, You gave… I enslave… You forgave… I rave, You pave… I crave… You gave… You save, I’m brave…
Outside…cease fire… This love is a saving grace, honey… Inside…inspired… This love is a saving grace… Outside...I tried... Where is my saving grace, honey... Inside...I lied... I long for my saving grace...
